10th grade Life Changing Moments Book
The human experience involves pain-- we've all been there. But for each negative encounter we've undergone, there is a related positive lesson to take away. Life is what you make of it; we choose to learn from hurt and become stronger, wiser, individuals.
Period 1 was a sophomore English class composed of 17 students and 4 teachers (not a typical classroom)! We had 14 males and 7 females (including the 4 teachers). Our class was a unique community. Like all communities, we each came with baggage. We had good days and bad days. What distinguished our group from others was the respect we showed each other. After reading Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, we wrote about difficult moments we had endured, and we chose to learn from the pain instead of dwelling on the past. Below are examples of the difficult moments (original text) and the lessons we learned from those moments (found poem).

** Brag Wall **
The "Brag Wall" is a staple in my classroom. This wall is dedicated to my students: any achievements, no matter how great or small, are displayed here. Newspaper clippings, student work, and any other student trophy decorate the wall as a constant reminder of students' many successes. Below are some student exemplars; check them out!
